Promoting Freedom and Human Rights for North Korea
- DFF Chairs North Korea Freedom Week to Promote Freedom and Human Rights for the North Korean People
Once again the Defense Forum Foundation
chaired North Korea Freedom Day which was
first held April 28, 2004, and credited with
leading to the unanimous passage of the
North Korea Human Rights Act. In 2005,
DFF expanded the day to include over a
week’s worth of events and programs promoting
the freedom, human rights and dignity
of the North Korean people.
- North Korean Defectors Announce New Alliance at DFF Forum During North Korea Freedom Week
As part of the events for North Korea Freedom
Week, defectors from North Korea were
featured at DFF’s Capitol Hill forum to
announce the formation of the Exile Committee
for North Korea Democracy (ECNKD).
- Half A Century in the Hellish Nightmare: South Korean Pows Tell Their Story; DFF Presents Them Freedom Award
Working with Korean War veteran Dr.
Thomas Chung who heads the Korean
POW Rescue Committee, DFF hosted a
forum with Chang-Ho Cho and Chang-Seok Kim, two former South Korean
POWs who had recently escaped from
North Korea having been held since the
Korean War. The forum was entitled “Half
a Century in the Hellish Nightmare: South
Korean POWs Tell Their Story.”

Following the April visit of North Korean
defectors during North Korea Freedom Week,
DFF hosted North Korean defectors again in
July and October. Included in the delegations
were long-time friends: Kim Seung-Min,
director of Free North Korea Radio, and Kang
Chul-Hwan, one of the first defectors DFF
hosted back in 1998.

China’s Violent Repatriations.
- Congressional Testimony on North Korea
The Defense Forum Foundation helped organize the very first hearing ever held in Congress to expose North Korean’s human rights abuses which was held in April 1999.
- Example of Major Speech on North Korea Policy
The Defense Forum Foundation has given numerous speeches on North Korea policy since it became involved in promoting freedom and human rights for the North Korean people in1996.
